In 2020 the Garage sought out to build a camera. We wanted the camera lens and camera body to be modular so it could be customizable and would fit well in our hands. We built a modular camera body with interchangeable grips and swappable lenses.
We built everything from individual parts and 3D printed the camera body. When the Raspberry Pi HQ Camera featuring a 12.3 megapixel Sony IMX477 sensor came out, we knew our Raspberry Pi Camera had to have it. Using the Raspberry Pi 3B, a 3.5” TFT Display, and a UPS Raspberry Pi HAT - we designed a custom enclosure and printed it with high temperature PETG material in order to ruggedize it to the elements. We even wrote a custom software package for the camera, that can capture pictures, audio and video - as well as host a Wi-Fi access point to transfer images directly from the camera.
